During our stay in Shanghai this summer 2011, we took this sightseeing bus tour, which we thought was well worth it. The fare is 30RMB per person which allows you to use two bus routes. Route 1 tours the major attractions on the west side of Huangpu river – the Bund, Yuyuan garden, People’s Square, Nanking Road Pedestrian Shopping Strip, and more; and Route 2 goes to the east side of the Huangpu River, mainly the financial district where there is the Pearl Tower, the Jinmao Tower and next to it the World Trade building. The buses running Route 1 are double-deckers, and air-conditioned, with the top deck open air with a canopy for shielding from the sun and rain for about half of the deck. I sat on the top deck and enjoyed seeing more than sitting in the lower deck.

There are audio guides in Mandarin, English, and other major languages. We were given a map, a earphone that can be plugged into the audio socket when we first boarded the bus. There is one audio socket for each seat. Ticket could be purchased from a ticketing office at the entrance to the City Planning Hall on the northeastern part of People’s Square, somewhat across from the museum.
